- the most efficient workstations are "L" and "U" shaped desks
- get a comfortable adjustable, swivel chair and place it so that everything on your workstation is at arm's reach
- place your computer, phone, fax, etc. on one wing
- leave enough deskspace in front of you to spread out your work
- your phone should be placed on the side of your desk opposite your writing hand so you can hold the phone and write at the same time
- don't clutter your workspace with too many pictures, souveniers, etc.
- pay attention to ergonomics. You shouldn't have to twist or bend to work on the computer, answer a call, or send a fax
- make sure your computer monitor is large enough to read easily and that it is at eye level
- don't store supplis at your workstation as it will limit the amount of available space for your movements
- keep enough supplies at your workstation to avoid getting up too frequently
- use vertical racks with open shelves to store stationary, envelopes, forms, etc.
- use drawer dividers to keep small items in order
- use stacking trays for work at different stages of production or for work on different projects
